Core Services
The services offered by the GREAT core are bundled together as projects, customized to suit the needs of individual clients. Each project typically involves multiple stages of research workflows and may take several months to over a year to complete.
The core services are broadly classified into three categories:
- Bundle A: Model designing, microinjection, genotyping and custom breeding
- Bundle B: Embryological services. These services include cryopreservation and rederivation. Cryopreserving embryos or sperm is a reliable method for safeguarding valuable mouse lines against disease, breeding challenges or unforeseen events. Rederivation involves restoring live mice from preserved genetic materials, ensuring continuity and integrity of the line.
- Bundle C: Custom Research Projects. Some investigator research questions fall into a category where standard service rates cannot be easily calculated. These projects are highly specialized and often require tailored experimental design and technical expertise. Examples include:
- Generating complex genetic rearrangements that require multiple, sequential rounds of gene editing
- Rescuing a non-breeding mouse line using assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF)
- Rapidly expanding a mutant mouse colony via IVF
- Investigating the stage of embryonic lethality in a newly generated mutant line
